Welcome to Black History Month 2021 at inWrite

BHM2021

In 1976, the 50th celebration of Negro History Week was expanded into Black History Month. Every year since then, various lectures and performances have been organized by schools and communities nationwide to celebrate the history, heritage, and achievements of the African American people.

This month, inWrite will be taking part in the celebrations by elevating the voices of black authors. Here’s what to expect from us this month:

We’ll be shining the spotlight on black poet Phillis Wheatley, discussing both her life and her work.

We’ll be talking about the life of educator Booker T. Washington, as well as his contributions.

We’ll be talking about Chinua Achebe, the father of African literature, and discussing his life and work.

Finally, we’ll be sharing a list of must-see movies made by black filmmakers.

We hope you join us as we celebrate African American excellence this month at inWrite.
